Area Businesses Earn Over $68,000 in Safety Rebates

FINDLAY, Ohio, November 21, 2016 – $68,796.44 was reinvested into the Findlay-Hancock County business community through those participating in the Hancock County Safety Council, a program of the Findlay∙Hancock County Chamber of Commerce. Compared to last year’s $58,258.53 total, Findlay-Hancock County employers saw an increase of over $10,000 in reinvestment this year. A total of 84 Hancock County area businesses participate in Hancock County Safety Council. These businesses are among the thousands of Ohio employers that shared more than $6 million in savings through the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Safety Council Rebate Program to continue efforts for providing safe work environments.

The Hancock County Safety Council is co-sponsored by the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Safety & Hygiene Division, and holds regular meetings to increase awareness of a safe environment in the workplace. The Council meets the first Thursday of the month from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Drury Inn & Suites. Each year, Findlay-Hancock County area businesses are recognized for outstanding safety records at the Annual Hancock County Safety Council Awards.

BWC’s Division of Safety & Hygiene sponsors 82 safety councils, across the state, organized through chambers of commerce, trade and manufacturing associations, American Red Cross chapters or other local safety-minded organizations. These safety councils provide their local communities with quality programs addressing occupational safety and health, workers’ compensation and risk management education and information. They inform participants about new techniques, products and services, and provide a thorough knowledge of these services.

Eligible employers participating in BWC’s Safety Council Discount Program can earn a two-percent premium discount. An additional two-percent performance bonus is available for employers that reduce either frequency or severity of claims by 10-percent or more below the previous year, or that maintain both frequency and severity at zero.
