June Safety Council Meeting to Discuss Mental Health

The Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, will host Hancock County Safety Council, featuring a presentation titled “Incorporating Mental Health into Safety” on Thursday, June 6, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn.

June’s main speaker is Ellyn Schmiesing, Executive Director of FOCUS. Her presentation will focus on the basic importance of addressing mental health concerns as a part of safety in the workplace, the top mental health issues experienced by the workforce, and a framework that can be used with employees to start addressing mental health issues.

Ellyn Schmiesing is the Executive Director of FOCUS: Recovery and Wellness Community, an organization whose mission is to provide a holistic community supporting purpose and wellness through recovery. Ellyn has been a facilitator of Mental Health First Aid for the last four years and is also a certified facilitator for Wellness Recovery Action Planning. As a licensed social worker and person in long-term recovery, she has experience providing recovery support services to diverse populations. Outside of her career, Ellyn is a proud farmer, daughter, wife, mother and aunt.
