Hancock Leadership Class of 2020 Launches Y on the Fly with the Findlay YMCA

The Hancock Leadership Class of 2020 has partnered with the Findlay YMCA to bring Y on the Fly to Hancock County communities. On June 16, the class officially launched the program and ceremoniously hand over the keys of the Y on the Fly van to the Findlay YMCA.

Y on the Fly is a van that brings pop-up activities, learning and fun to children in underserved neighborhoods. The goal of the program is to break the barrier of youth having to travel to the Y for programs, and serve those who would not be able to be a part of traditional youth programs due to finances or lack of transportation. The Y on the Fly van is filled with games, sports equipment, science experiments and healthy snacks ready to keep kids and families active and engaged while encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

“Our Hancock Leadership class is so honored to leave this gift to the kids in our community,” said Stacy Poca, marketing committee chairperson for the project. “We look forward to volunteering alongside YMCA staff to play games with the kids as the van begins rolling out to neighborhoods.”

The Y on the Fly van will pop up at a wide range of spaces, such as libraries, schools, parks and neighborhood streets with special attention to areas with limited options for safe recreation. The program is free and open to kids of all ages. Locations will be announced prior to the scheduled date when feasible.

In the Fall of 2019, the Hancock Leadership Class of 2020 chose Y on the Fly from among a handful of worthy community projects to support with fundraising and program implementation. The class surpassed their $10,000 fundraising goal thanks to support from First National Bank, LaRiche Chevrolet Cadillac, The Community Foundation and many other community organizations.

The Hancock Leadership program, a part of the Findlay-Hancock Chamber of Commerce, is designed to develop and cultivate all people with a passion to serve our community through a dynamic learning experience that encourages self-discovery, fosters relationships and inspires stewardship. Since 1985, more than 1,000 area leaders have graduated from this annual program, representing more than 300 area business and/or service organizations.
